ABOUT US
Richard Wiseman MD RICHARD J. WISEMAN, M.D.

 

Dr. Richard J. Wiseman completed his undergraduate studies at Memorial University, Newfoundland, Canada, and his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1969. The doctor practiced his first ten years in Canada as a family care practitioner before moving with his family to Austin in 1979. Dr. Wiseman is certified to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and is a respected member of the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Wiseman has extensive experience in the fields of pediatrics, OB-GYN, anesthesia, emergency medicine, bioidentical hormone therapy, and general family medicine.

 

Dr. Wiseman has been married to his wife Diane for 40 years, and together they have three sons. Middle son Jeremy recently joined Wiseman Family Practice as a primary care physician. Jason, the eldest, is a computer programmer in Austin, and Joshua, the youngest, is a tennis professional currently residing in California.

JEREMY D. WISEMAN, M.D.

 

Dr. Jeremy D. Wiseman received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, in 1998, and his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, in 2006. Dr. Wiseman completed his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio-McAllen Family Practice Residency Program as of June 2009. The doctor has an avid interest in general family medicine, as well as women’s health, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), weight loss, alternative/preventive medicine, and sports medicine. Dr. Wiseman is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

 

Dr. Wiseman is a avid tennis player and participated on the Division I University of Illinois Varsity Tennis team while attending the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, Illinois. Since returning to Austin, Dr. Wiseman has made a significant impact in the care of our patients. He appreciates the opportunity of joining his father in practice and assisting patients in their quest for better health care.

   
Sellma Vllasi FNPC

SELLMA VLLASI, FNP–C

 

Sellma Vllasi, FNP–C received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, Texas, and her Masters of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin, with post–graduate certification by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Family Care. Ms. Vllasi maintains memberships in professional associations including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Texas Nurse Practitioners, Austin Advanced Practice Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. With over ten years nursing experience in women’s health as well as chronic disease management and prevention, Ms. Vllasi has a keen interest in preventive medicine, women’s health, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and comprehensive health care for the family across the lifespan.


When not assisting patients with their health care needs, Ms. Vllasi enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and running. Ms. Vllasi welcomes the opportunity to assist patients with their health care concerns and needs.


ABOUT NURSE PRACTITIONERS

 

Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses who are prepared, through extensive education and clinical training, to provide a wide range of preventive and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. Nurse Practitioners complete graduate-level education preparation leading to a master’s degree, followed by post-graduate certification in their specialty area such as Adult Health, Family, Pediatrics, Acute Care, Women’s Health, Geriatrics, and others. Nurse Practitioners take health histories and provide complete physical examinations; diagnose and treat many common, acute and chronic problems; interpret laboratory results and x–rays; prescribe and manage medications and other therapies; provide health teaching and supportive counseling with an emphasis on prevention of illness and health maintenance; and refer patients to other health professionals as needed.

 

 

Lindsey Berkson

DEVAKI LINDSEY BERKSON, M.A., D.C., C.N.S., D.A.C.B.N., A.C.N.

 

Devaki Lindsey Berkson is a well–respected nutritionist and hormone expert with a diverse background of clinical experience. She approaches patient care with the goal of balancing each person from both a hormonal and nutritional perspective, an approach that traditional medicine often overlooks. She has complimented this experience with a unique body of academic research that has resulted in numerous journal publications and articles. Dr. Berkson is a best–selling author with fifteen books on health and nutrition, four with a focus on hormones.

 

Dr. Berkson has a Master's Degree in Nutrition, with three higher board certifications in nutrition which include the American College of Nutrition, Diplomat of the American Clinical Board of Nutrition, and Applied Certified Nutritionist. The doctor has been intimately involved in many cutting edge medical projects including working as a participating scholar at a think tank on estrogens and the environment at Tulane and Xavier Universities (Center for Bioenvironmental Research), working on a patented bioidentical hormone, co-inventing a new generation of diabetic and dialysis medication, formulating the first non-hormonal nutritional supplement for menopausal women, as well as the first natural vitamin line for hormonal issues in women. She served as a nutritional chiropractic physician in California in the first multidisciplinary practice in the state and has a long history of teaching continuing medical education courses (CME classes) to physicians of all disciplines on the clinical application of nutrition and endocrinology.

 

Dr. Berkson hosted one of the early nutritional radio talk shows in the California Bay Area and wrote a full–page column for the San Francisco Chronicle on health and food. She has brought her skills to Austin, Texas and has worked with many parts of the medical community including a leading kidney doctor in Austin in which she co–spearheaded research on a new approach to kidney dysfunction and a treatment which focused on natural nutritional/nutraceutical approaches that have been at the core of her medical philosophy. .

 

Berkson is an avid athlete, dancer, and chef. She enjoys combining these and many other interests with her holistic approach to living.
