Today, more and more women are opting for a planned attended home birth with a midwife.
Unfortunately, much of the research today is misleading as to the superiority of hospital based births for low risk pregnancies. For high risk pregnancies and 4 emergent conditions, hospital births are unquestionably safer. These conditions include: cord prolapse, ruptured uterus, amniotic fluid embolism, and placental abruption. However, for low risk pregnancies, planned attended births that are managed professionally continue to be a safe option for women.
